What a weekend

Well, I’m going to write two posts this morning because I have lots to say 😉 This first post is going to be about my weekend, and the second post will just be me rambling about my love of something other than alcohol.

FIRST OFF – crazy busy weekend and the whole weekend I just kept thinking about how different it would have been if I had been drinking (which I didn’t, by the way! Day 27 here on this sunny Monday)

Friday – the boyfriend wanted to go to the bar because it was one of his friends daughter’s birthday and they were all getting together there to celebrate. I, however, already had other plans. The boyfriend’s friend who quit drinking 3 months ago had invited me to an AA meeting because there was going to be a speaker there, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to check it out since I haven’t been to AA. At the end of the meeting I asked if I could get a first day chip (don’t laugh at me but it’s because it was my 24th day and the first chip says 24 hours so I thought that was neat). I missed a call from the boyfriend while I was there so when I noticed that, I texted him to see what was going on. He was hoping that I could change my plans that evening to help his daughter out by driving her somewhere to pick up a vehicle. SERIOUSLY?! NO. Thankfully enough time had gone by that she had already found a different ride. Got home a couple of hours earlier than him so I snuck (sneaked?) watched a couple of episodes of the show that we watch together so now I have to act surprised at what happens in the episodes we watch together that I have already watched, haha.

Saturday – One of our annual large events at work. I’m supposed to be there early (8am) to oversee staff and volunteers during set up. I have never made it there early as I’m usually FAR too hungover to get my ass out of bed by 6am on a Saturday morning. I usually get there an hour late, looking disheveled and no doubt reeking of the previous evenings drinking, in no shape or form to deal with any last minute crises that may arise as is inevitable with large events. This one though – I rocked. I was up early, showered, hair and makeup on, dressed nicely and made it there by 7:50am even though I stopped at the coffee shop and bought a bagel & coffee and commuted an hour. YAY ME! And then I was PRESENT all day! Actually mentally present making suggestions, mingling, and in a GREAT mood ALL day. Drove home in the evening drinking a hot chocolate and rocking out to 70’s music in my car. Crashed on the couch with a blanket and tea and then into bed early because I was absolutely exhausted.

Sunday – slept in til 8:30 but woke up with so much energy that I spent the day doing lots of cleaning around the house including washing the sheets again (now that I’m not drunkenly falling into bed each night I have been washing the sheets at least once a week because it’s one of those little things that I notice and appreciate now. How was that possibly so far off my radar when I was drinking???) I ran errands, bought groceries, cleaned out the fridge and the spice cupboard. I also stopped in at the dollar store to look around and found some single Sanpellegrino pomegranate flavoured drinks. The Sanpellegrino Limonata’s have been one of my favourite go-to drinks because they kick ANY craving I’m having to the ground. They’re pretty tart, but it doesn’t matter if I’m craving a glass of wine or a cold beer, the craving is completely gone after I drink one of those. I haven’t seen the pomegranate ones anywhere so I’m excited to try those!

I have to say that this was my best sober weekend so far 😀

Sounds like a super sober weekend! Just think, if don’t ever drink again your whole life will be like that. 😃

It wasn’t really what I was expecting but the person I went with said that because it was a speaker one it was different than the normal ones. There were lots of people there from other aa groups who had come to listen to the speaker and it was like old time reunion day because they all seemed to know each other from years past. The average age in the room would be about 60-65 I’m guessing? 3 women and 15 men? They read the 12 steps out and some rules and then introduced the speaker and when he was finished the meeting was over, so no round the room introductions although a few people did come over to shake my hand and introduce themselves. I’d say if anyone wants to check out an AA mtg to get a feel for the crowd at any particular location a speaker meeting would be a great way to do it!
I think out of all of the different drinks I have tried since quitting drinking the limonatas are by far my favourite! Xx

So happy for you. Especially the work part. How much better does it feel not to be all messed up at work.
